my van used to have a 5 speed but something went wrong with the 5th gear says the PO. so a 4 speed was fitted arhhhhhhhh.
now getting fron 1st to 2nd is a pain. it will go down from 3rd to second no prob but going up i have to go from 1st to 3rd then back into 2nd. i have been told that this is because the gear linkage was not changed, i cant see it myself, i have both sets of rods and to me they look the same. any ideas folks.
im planning on swapping the box out soon as it is revving its t!ts off at 60mph.

Re: gear selection
Just for info. a 4 speed stick and the selection box underneath can be used on a 5 speed box.metalmick8y wrote:5 into 4 dont happen and vice-versa
We did it two weeks ago on a mate's bus.

Re: gear selection
it was originally a 5 speed with a 1.6 diesel . the guy who i bought it off said that it had a problem with 5th so he fitted a four speed box. when i bought the van the 1.6 was dead so i fitted a 19 AEF diesel engine. i have arranged to collect the 5 speed box of the PO tomorrow and have it rebuilt by a local transmission place.
Re: gear selection
front shift rod and gearstick are different 4/5 speed
if yours are the same then you dont have a set of 4 and 5 speeds
