Re: oil light
How long have you owned your T25? Has the oil light worked previously, or has it always been non-working? If the latter, it may be that the previous owner has disabled it.

Re: oil light
Silly question I know, but when you replaced the engine, did you replace it for a like for like engine, or if not, did you replace the related loom for said replacement engine?.

Re: oil light
An '83 van doesn't have the wiring for the switch behind the pulley as standard, just the one between the pushrods ... which it sounds as if you've disabled by earthing it out ?

Re: oil light
You haven't fitted a later Pod have you? Couple of things to watch for.
At around 86 the oil warning system was changed and a circuit (Buzzer of Doom) was introduced. This PCB controls the oil pressure LED and if its missing or defective the LED will not work. During this changeover period VW released pods with the later horizontal edge connector but without the buzzer of doom and the LED was (as before) controlled directly by the oil pressure switch. If your van was one of these, then the later one with a BOD fitted will stop the oil pressure led from working even though these dashboards look identical.
I live in Norfolk, not sure how far awy you are from me but if I can help let me know.
