Photo - Is there Supposed to be a Vacuum pipe attached ?

Post by Mickyfin »

Sorry for yet more questions

As per photo below, today I replaced all my vacuum hoses, and in doing so, I observed this near the ECU in the left side of the engine bay behind the rear light. There is a vacuum pipe going to it, but I was unable to renew this particular one as it runs in a loom. I found the starting point, so guess I could replace, then routing attaching along the same route.

Is there supposed to be a pipe coming off it? If so, where does it go to?

Image

Also, if you can help, also related to the vacuum pipe, what is this thing with what looks like a tap on it? It has a T Piece switch type thing on it, and two breathers/vacuum pipes going to it.

Ignore its position, I removed it to fit the new pipes, and of course to clean, and get a photo.

And finally my engine bay with new vacuum hoses fitted. The one to the lower right of the engine bay that goes behind the right rear light had me stumped for a little while, then discovered I was able to access the area the vacuum pipe went by removing the rear light cluster.

Im planning on relocating the fuel filter you can see in the above photo, and will try and locate it under the vehicle somewhere.

Thanks in advance. :ok

No need for that filter, you have one at the tank.
I would remove it.

Cheers Kev mate, I will remove it. Is there any way of checking the condition of the one at the tank?

He's got a syncro (fuel tank at back) so that might be his only filter. 2.1i has the filter in the rear wheel arch. Carb models I don't know. So could be worth checking before cutting out

the valve with two spigots is connected in series to the heatflap preheater valve that is connected to the air intake, it's for wading - you switch if off before wading to ensure you don't pull water into the vaccum system or into the air intake - it's shown in Bentley I think
