cv joints, too cheap?

For the sake of a tenner just get the GKN ones, GSF sell them and they should last for years, its a "pooh" job so I can't see why anyone would want to do it twice, I wouldn't change one for a tenner,thats for sure.

Hello,

Our last 3 visitors have all had to have CV joints done.

I use oem from Serialkombi costing € 74 each, with fitting kit.

All the better ones have clearly defined heat hardening in the main outer ring, visible even in the catalogue photos.

As said above, this has to be one of the muckiest jobs on a T25, so how often do you want to be doing this...

All to save £10

I'll tel you this much, those ebay ones (and it was those exact ones) never lasted the year. I ended up swapping the entire driveshaft and joints for a good S/H one at Stanford Hall and had no trouble since.

I couldnt agree more, its drive train which means failure =walk/tow/hassle, would always go when om hols ,catching ferry,whenever its most inconvenient, I would always ask yourself that if say you had a breakdown what would you pay to have an instant fix and be on your way.

Which is why I carry a "ready" spare driveshaft with CVs greased up and bagged with bolts & gaskets.

Looking to replace at least 2 cv joints, maybe all 4.
Found GSK ones on ebay for £38 plus £5 post,
but then spotted these others for £29 plus £6.50 post

Am I penny pinching towards crap quality?

Brickwerks sell them for just over fifty quid plus postage, and are OEM quality.

Personally, for the sake of twelve quid more, I'd use them partcularly as they aren't a 5 minute job to change particularly at the roadside in the peeing rain on a Sunday lunchtime But then its fourty eight quid more if doing the lot and then that's more a cost factor. That sort of cash would buy a few more litres of petrol/diesel

GSF are same make (GKN) as Brickwerks and cheaper, you can collect too so no postage.

Mmmm, but I paid £69 for 2 delivered, so this make Brickwerks £15 plus post more expensive, which is close on another £40 more for 2, and, er, I am ashamed to admit, I paid someone £50 to change 'em
Given I only do about 3 to 5k in a year, I reckon a couple of years use from them will be fine
