Just got the van back today after an engine rebuild. Noticed the glow plug tell tale comes on and stays on until you start the van. I waited and waited for it to go out (30 secs+) and that was on a warm engine too. I have tested the voltage to the bus bar and the voltage cuts out shortly after the engine starts so no biggy I think. I have been reading back on old posts but I cant work out where the temperature sensor is for the glow plugs and the colour wires that go to it.
any ideas?
Its an AAZ by the way with a new head.

Re: Glow plug temperature sender whereabouts?
Hello,
there's sometimes two temperatures senders in one on the coolant flange on the cylinder head - then it'll be white/blue wire, and a brown wire that needs earthed. Alternatively sometimes there are other locations for separate senders - one for the gauge and one for the glow plugs - the one you want is also white/blue. There's a thread here with some pics of both setups:
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=86935" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
page 2's got pics by psychonaut of the first sort, and page 6's has got weldore's setup with two separate temperature senders.
Hope that helps a bit

Re: Glow plug temperature sender whereabouts?
Right it looks like this is what I'm after weldore calls it the "top hose housing" But that surely measures coolant temperature rather than glow plug temp. Surely glow plugs get a very small space hot in the chamber not actually start heating the coolant in 10 seconds?

These two on the rear of the head are oil pressure and temp sender for engine temp on dash yes? I thought Oil pressure was on the filter housing or are there two like a petrol for different rev ranges?

Hello,
that's the right one - the glow plug relays time how long to cycle the glow plugs according to coolant temperature. Once started the coolant will quickly start to heat up around there so the time will be less.
There are indeed two oil pressure switches - the one on the head earths below around 0.3bar making the light come on, and the one at the pump breaks earth at above 0.8 bar.
