quick question - how much suck should a vacuum unit on the distributer have? if i put my thumb over the end of the hose, should i be able able to feel it?

at idle the carb produces only a little vacuum, but most people can feel it , if you wear rubber gloves it's more positively iluustrated, but as you rev the engine ( be careful of belts and rotating parts) the vacuum increases, but without being connected the timing will be out so won't rev properly; with a timing gun you can see the effect of connecting the vacuum, that's why timing is done with vac disconnected and plugged at carb
