no main beam and others
Help! MOT is due and I have found out I have no main beam. I have just renewed the switch, but no difference. I have no main beam, or flash of same, no main beam indicator light and no panel lights. Also no haynes manual, as the wife sees to have "tidied" it away somewhere. I have found from here that there would need to be a couple of fuses gone for all these things to not work, fuses all look good, but will check with meter while i await help here.

OK, panel light problem found, its the pcb. But still neither full beam or full beam warning light

If you've got the old style clip-in fuses just check one hasn't popped out of the clip and is in the glove-box.
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.

thanks for the reply, but nope, fuses are good. Also it would mean 2 fuses for both lights to not work. I think am going to be busy with a meter tomorrow, wish I could find that stupid haynes manual

Try cleaning the earth crown, and any other earths that form part of headlight circuit.

quick update on this.
Went armed with a meter and a bit of wiring diagram downloaded from internet.
Fuses...........good
Bulbs..............good
light switch on dash........good
hmmmmmm
Had already replaced the indicator/main/dip switch
But wait....it only acts as a lever for the main/dip.......its located on the wiper switch (which I replaced last year, or maybe earlier this year even)
Turns out the (never used) switch was faulty. I only replaced it and checked my wipers, which then worked. It seems it had not been assembled correctly, it wasnt clicking , something I didnt know if it should or not, never having even used the lights on the van. After taking it apart (dozens of times, OMG is it fiddly) I have got it working, however it is very stiff, and I guess will eventually need replaced again sometime soon.
So the lessons are
1. Never assume (as in which column switch it should be)
2. Just because a part is new, doesn't mean it works!
I hope this may be of use to others in the future, and thanks to the guys who offered advice.
PS....still havent found the haynes manual, and I now have the cleanest fuse box and earth tree in the world!
