how much gearbox oil????????????and which one

eyup ducks,ive looked on the wiki and scoured the posts but cant find a definate answer to filling up a gearbox,do you fill it up to the hole or is it to be 10-15mm below the hole,the gearbox im using is a petrol 4 speed box roughly 1983-4,also from my findings it seems that ep80 gl4 is a sensible oil to use rather than gl5,is this correct or am i totally gouing in the wrong direction,desperate to know as i want it off the stands tomorrow to try it out...........any advice would be greatly appreciated........regards.

4 Speed gearbox, Up to bottom edge of the hole, Gear oil SAE 80, to API GL 4 or equivalent. Says Mr Haynes excellent manual.
