Windscreen Wipers
As I have only had my van "Ruby" for a few months my knowledge is small. I took it out in the rain for the first time and thought the wipers were very slow and only appear to operate at this one speed. The van is a 1980 aircool 2ltr. Is there an upgrade? Is the motor suspect? Unfortunately I do not know any other owners to compare notes. Any help or comments appreciated.

Are they tight on the spindles? Also check the bolt that secures the mechanism to the wiper motor. Mine went slow and eventually stopped working because the nut had come lose.
It requires you to remove the glovebox and be a bit of a contortionist to reach behind the front panel but you can just about get a 10mm socket on it....E D I T here we are https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... s#p7418076" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Or it could be a problem with the wiper stalk or earth

Hey Mick
A friend of mine Just had this problem traced to battery earth strap no longer making unadulterated contact with the body. Lights would dim too when the wipers were on.
If you suspect your wiper motor, you could check it using a spare battery (with an in-line fuse very close to the +ve terminal in case you miss) or a mains 12V power supply directly onto the motor terminals, but beware.... they don't half go fast without the wiring resistance in the way!

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out at the week-end. Need to get them sorted, as we are going to the Battlesbridge show week-end after next. It allways rains at that show
