nearside rear squeak/screech V loud

Post by stephen t25 »

Hello all, Having returned from 2 weeks camping in france no problems.. as we drove off the ferry at plymouth the rear nearside wheel started squeeling very loudly, when we got home i jacked the van up removed the offending wheel and drum, checked the brakes, removed the outer bearing and regreased and put back together.... still squeeling... seems to do it more when accelerating and dabbing the brakes makes no difference.

Any help would be very much apreciated, it is a 1.9tdi whitestar. :ok

Hi

I had the same problem after my first trip out in our van. Did the same as you until I found an old forum on this website mentioning that the bush on the rear suspension hangers tend to dry out and get a bit squeeky. A little spray with some lubricant and it went away. Oh make sure the lube you use is not dentrimental to rubber.

Wheel cylinders OK not leaking?
Shoes OK
Back plate not catching on the drum?
does the wheel spin without squeal on the jack out of gear?

If not are you sure it's coming from the wheels and not the clutch?
