Windy - have you mounted in it inside or outside the van?
I was looking at something like this:

but if I can mount something inside....would be better.

Re: reverse camera
A dedicated reversing camera should have the image already reversed otherwise your right hand side will appear on the left hand side of the screen. Some flush mounting cameras are difficult to mount so that you have a horizontal or downward view and the only way is to mount them upside down, this is where the ability to flip the image vertically with the screen comes into play. (Otherwise you will have the road at the top of the screen and the sky at the bottom)ermie571 wrote:You just need to check that the camera you do get gives a reverse image if your screen/monitor will not flip it for you.Mine will flip it vertically as well as horizontally so that you can use all sorts of cameras.
this confused me.....rather naively, i thought the camera sends a signal to the screen which displays it....what does it need to flip? Again - I will read the instructions.

I wouldn't recommend using a camera with Infra Red diodes inside a glass window as the light will diffract and blind the camera, either partially or totally.

Re: reverse camera
I had a camera originally mounted inside the van in the middle of the rear cupboard. This worked fine until I started using a bike rack and the bikes blocked the view. I moved the camera outside to the left of the rear light cluster. I'm not sure what shorted but before I could fix it in place the wire between the camera and the power supply melted its insulation and kippered the camera? I got another camera from China and fitted to the side of the light but I've noticed that the image produced is badly effected by direct sunlight. I think I might either remount it inside or make a lens shade for it to stop the sunlight flaring out the image.
One other thing I didn't connect the power supply from the reversing light, I took it from the screen itself. This means I can manually turn on the camera on get a better view of tail-gaters before I introduce them to my tow-hitch.
