tapping rattling on start up????

Hi,

not sure if its a problem or not, but when i started up my 1985 1.9 petrol bus last night to go for a spin she made a clattering sound for a mile or two, sounded exhaust based like it was loose?? then two miles up thr road it returnrd to the normal sound,
i went to work in her this morning (radio on Jonny Cash playing, i was having a moment!!!) and everything seemed ok, i have had the van serviced and nothing seemed to pop out as a problem,
could anybody throw any light on it?? thanks

Your engine has hydraulic valve lifters
as they get older they leak down with lack of use. ..or poor oil quality or poor oil pressure

not a bother as long as they do shut up
its normal.

Change the oil twice a year 15/40 or 20/50 mineral.

Hi Thanks for that, the drive in this morning seemed to be ok again, its getting quite a bit of use lately as i havent had it long, it may have stood for a while prior to that,
