Its back. High tick over, difficult starting. 2.1

Post by KarlT »

My 2.1 dj has started playing up again. (I've got one day to fix it before Vanfest)
Tick-over revs are all over the place. 700rpm one minute 2200 the next. Feels gutless below 2500rpm.
Very difficult to start (sometimes fine) turns over & over...nothing. Pump the gas & maybe it'll splutter into life.
Checked for airleaks last time (3 months) this happened. couldn't find anything.

What can it be? All ideas wellcome.

I recently had a similar problem with my idle revs all over the place. Solved the problem by unplugging and cleaning the connectors to the idle stabiliser unit. The function of the ISU is to electronically advance the ignition timing should revs fall below 940 rpm. I think that in my case the hall effect sensor signal intermittently reached the ISU. The ECU acted on false information from the ISU and provided more air to the engine via the auxiliary air regulator as well as the required fuel. This triggered a real increase in revs and caused my symptoms.
