engine tinware

Post by lloydy »

Got bored today, so fitted a couple bits of the tinware that attaches to the bashplate
What is the actual purpose of it? sound deadening? some of it has quite thick padding on.
i've got five pieces in total, is that the right amount? And can i still get the screws that hold the tinware on from VW, as a few more screws would be handy :D

Well been out for a drive, certainly seem quieter and has got rid of some annoying vibration at idle. I found the heat shield above exhaust was loose, happy dayz :D

Yup they are Multivan and Caravelle shields and quite hard to get and are different from other models. I plan to get a set made up in stainless and fit new sound deadening material .....

it really does make a surprising difference, engine is more muted. Think i might send them off to be galvinized along with the trailing arms. Is 5 the right amount? As i havent fitted the other 3 yet. Looks like i have to take those two back off to get at least 2 of the others in
i've had them sitting in the garage for the last 10 months

The tinware offers very little protection off road, its not meant to. Its there for sound deadening and looks although it does help keep some of the s h i t out ... !!

Yes they are a pain in the a rse to take off but you rarely have to. If they are fitted properly they dont let in too much "pooh"
