the driver was interviewed on welsh news tonight
he said it was on his list of 50 things to do before you die
it was no.1
the authorities are making a right dogs meal out of getting it back down

suggestions included chinook helicopter and cutting it up into small pieces putting it on the train
they wont drive it because of insurance liability issues for whoever drives it !!

the bloke who drove it up has offered to drive it back down for them
he said it took nine hours to get up at night and was hoping to do it all in the dark before anyone knew about it

just drive it back down for gods sake it's not going to do any harm !
and it's not that nobodys never done it before ( twice apparently years ago ) it's just its not PC to do it now

plus I want to see what the police do about it because of all the publicity they will have to be seen to take action

Isn´t that illegal in the UK? If he did anything like this in Norway there would be fines, loss of drivers license etc.

Exactly what I thought, did not look a challenging place to have stopped. He said it had taken 7 hours, so perhaps ran out of fuel.

So, a man drove a 4x4 up a mountain. He got stuck and now the world is in uproar because there might be a small cost in removing it?????

Surely if he can get it unstuck he could drive it back down in daylight (at no cost to anyone else) with a slapped wrist and perhaps a fine?

I'm sorry but as a climber I have seen morons try to walk/climb mountains on foot with little or no skills/knowledge/protection and they have got stuck, had to be rescued at enormous cost and/or died as a result. having worked in mountain rescue it's these people that cheese me off the most. At least this guy had the sense to use an appropriate tool (the 4x4).

I seriously doubt the Max Power boys will be attempting this in the near future and if they did, punish them and make them work there or pay a big fine. It's not that big an issue surely??

Hehehehehehe..... thats me that is a couple of weeks ago I climbed a small mountain (well a scramble really but with big rocks and a few small ledges) in my flip flops and board shorts. All the people holding those pole things hated me you could tell, I was dieing to ask one of them for a drink though as I was well thirsty

I remember years ago (1990's) talk of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Syncro driving further up the track on Ben Nevis (before it was stepped) than any other 4x4 had in the past. Mind you an Austin 7 has apparently been to the summit.

In my experience of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, they all love the time they give, and it's a communal and social challenge. Stupid people will always be out on the mountain and it is quite fun to rescue them. It's a good storey to tell afterwards anyway.
