I'll add my voice to those suggesting that you need to get that expansion tank fitted asap. Without it I think I'm right in saying that at cool-down you could be sucking air back into your system which will add to any air-lock problems you already have.

Earlier this year I replaced all my front-to-back pipes and had a bit of a mare afterwards getting the cooling system working properly again, as people here will testify. I may not be able to help, but feel free to ring me on my mobile number below anyway and if I can help, I will :ok

Thanks psychonaut, I'll keep it in mind when I source an expansion tank and I get the chance to have another go at the van.
