Camper table TV bracket mod

Post by 72BUG »

None VW specific but could be adapted to work in pretty much any van, depending on the layout.

I wanted to put a table in my camper, but didn't want to drill holes in the floor to mount a baseplate. Also because of my layout, a fixed table would be a real pain. So I was racking my brains on how to get around the problem and hit on the idea of using a TV mounting bracket as a swing arm for a table.

What you will need.

The tabletop is a skimboard which I got off ebay for £10
Extendable double swing arm TV bracket off ebay £20 (I have already removed the TV mounting plate in the picture.)
Table mounting plate and pole around £20.
So total cost around £50

First job was to secure the base plate to the table. I didn't want to drill through it so I stuck it on with "Sticks Like Sh*t" (yes that's actually what it's called), but you can use Araldite or any other decent sticky stuff.

Then work out where the table would be most useful and mount the arm to a cupboard.

Next I cut down the table leg pole as I only needed a small section, then bolted it to the end of the TV mounting bracket

Then just pop the table top on when you want to use it, ands stow it away when you don't. This gives you a versatile table which you can move around and swing out of the way.

In my layout it works great as an extention to the worktop as extra serving space.

Or swings around so it fits between 2 people for playing cards etc.

Or swings all the way around if 2 people wist to sit side by side to eat or drink.

Then stows away neatly when not in use.

It works absolutely brilliantly and I'm well pleased with it. Hopefully it may be of use to someone else.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

That looks really good, way better than my ironing-board / table hybrid that never got further than the design stage.
