Blue Ignition coil advise and its compatability

Post by carpmaster »

Hello

Please can someone help with a question on my ignition coil..I am on the electrics and ignition learning curve.
You can follow my thread on the engine conversion I am currently doing. https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=85664" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would like to know if I can use this coil on an electronic ignition system. I have contacted GSF on a number of occasions with a reply (eventually..don't mean to sound bitter..but I feel GSF have a poor customer service record, which, is sad :? ) and they suggested I contacted these people.. http://www.veewee.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; However, I have yet to hear from them and that was at the beginning of August..no tel number.. :?

I would like to know if I can use this coil..which has no ballest resistor..I know I don't need one, however, I am uncertain as to whether I can use it with an impulse sender..electronic ignition system..

Thanks in advance and much appreciated..

I have just received an email from GSF..
Having spoken to one of my colleagues I would recommend Ign Coil number 925VG0040 which is for vehicles with electronic ignition and volvo engines.

The part number on the one I currently have is 925VG0020...Not sure if there is much difference between the two..I am about to look into it..all advise is most welcome..

First you need a multimeter.
Check the ohm reading across terminals 1 and 15
0.6-1 ohm is for electronic ignition.
Around 1.5 ohms is for ballast resistor systems with points ignition.
Around 3 ohms is for normal points ignition.

If the coil is the 0.6-1 ohm then you are in the right ball park and will essentially work with your system.

Thanks Bigherb

your info will help when it comes to testing the setup..I have yet to get the engine in..hopefully in the next few days..and I need to invest in a manometer.

I have been given a tel number for GSF headquarters..I will pose the question to them..especially when it comes to ohm readings and what I would expect from the coil I have at present.

Thanks again..really appreciated

If you need a multimeter these are one of the best at a reasonable price. Accurate and work with electronic ignition which a lot of the cheap one don't as their sampling rate is to slow.

Thanks again Bigherb your a star.. :ok
I checked the link and I will be buying one...you have taken away several hours of research and wondering which meter might work..much appreciated..sooo much info bouncing around the "ole nogging" at the mo...getting closer to finalising all the bits and bobs I need..then I'm ready for the big push..
Thanks again
