Having trouble with 82 2L a/c, broke down coming back from Stonor , AA said it was ICU , changed that, ok for 400 miles then starting back firing etc, then would not start , changed coil, leads, cap, rotor arm, still no go, checlked spark again today ......no spark, at plug end or from the coil HT centre lead, did the test of a wire in the centre connection of the 3 wires to the side of the dizzy and then flashing to earth, and get a spark form the centre lead of the coil. Any guidance would be gratefully accepted, even if it was "scrap it"

Re: No spark
looks like hall sender then if you can flash the coil and get a spark static but not with engine spinning
I take the disi is spinning with the engine ?

dont do that - aircooleds are being culled far too often!
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Re: No spark
Yes it looks like the hall chip is not working but check you have more than 5 volts (should be nearer 11v) across the two outside pins of the distributor plug. The ICU powers the the hall chip via the idling stabiliser plug and it is not unknown for the wires/connections to break in the plug.

Is that with just the ignition on?

Re: No spark
cleaned everything, tested outer 2 points on the dizzy plug= 8volts, also tested there is a supply to the coil when turning over........she fired up, mixture of running ok,loses power, cuts out @ back fires, and difficult /non stating. tried cleaning again , no difference, when not starting, I get the missis to turn it over
,(non driver) as I test the spark which is intermittent/no spark.
Going for the Hall sender change,u think thats ok?

Re: No spark
It becomes more awkward when it becomes an intermittent fault. But if the the spark was produced when you earthed the centre dizzy pin, but still not when the engine is turned over then it is most likely the hall chip.
Otherwise you need to connect a LED test light (not a bulb) to the centre pin of the dizzy and the coil terminal +15 and check the switching of the hall chip. Every time the chip switches the led will flash you should get a steady stream of flashes increasing with engine speed, if they become intermittent then that confirms the hall chip is a fault.
