ply lining panel van with wood

Post by xpress »

looking for someone who may have done this before.

hi there, i had this in notes somewhere but can't find it.

what mm thickness is the ply for lining a panel van? i was thinking 3mm

also any tips for cutting it around certain parts of the van and how you arranged it?

how much of it (how many metres?) will i need to do the sides and top?

any pointers on fitting it to the van, should i use the vw clips that the oem panels use?

best places to get it, wickes?

ALSO,

i see this 10mm camper mats you can get that's shown in the wiki, if i stick this on the other side of the ply lining wood, is this better, more insulating than the space blanket insulation you can get from the diy stores?

many thanks, i am tearing my hair out here.

:ok

i have this van which is for breaking

it is factory lined

using hardboard, but you could copy the panels in 3mm ply.

£10 as a good gesture gets all the panels(including tailgate) , all the screws as is, the aluminium joing strip and the bump strips along the lower piece.

there is enough of all the pieces it copy!

I got my replacement panels for Doris from Totally Trimmed on E-Bay very helpful and at 110gbp delivered I thought a good price. The panels are laser cut and use original templates and they swear by the fit. Made from 3mm MDF moisture resistant board. Hope this helps and thanks for the roofing guide. Rob :ok

I am going for 3mm hard board for now. any way to ensure moisture resistance? using plastic sheet vapour barrier, can I use a dulux interior wood paint or an exterior wood stain to seal up the hardboard?

Thin down some yacht varnish with white spirits and make sure to paint both sides of the panels. This is often why boards warp and twist...because people sometimes only seal one of the surfaces.

cheers bb, I have some varnish. went for interior clear Matt. will dulux the board and varnish.

I am thinking of putting the insulation on the other side of the board instead of taping to the panels and cutting squares of insulation and taping to the middle of the panels to stop drumming. what do you guys think?
