Misfire to backfire to stopped!!!

Post by joemcevoy »

Hello all

By way of introduction I have had a 1991 Autohomes Kamper 1900cc petrol engine which was replaced and has 50k on the clock for 18 months. It has always driven like a dream until two weeks ago.

It started with a misfire and I noticed the central carbon pin on the dizzy cap was messed up so replaced it but since the problem worsened and today wont move without backfiring (albeit rather quietly).

I have checked

plugs
dizzy cap
rotor arm
vacuum pipes
fuel pipes

I am thinking that there is either an air leak I cant find or the timing has gone seriously astray. Help please

Hello,

Mechanical or electronic ignition?

mech change condenser, reset points if no better substitute coil for same spec

electronic Awful hall effect system, do all the guff on the forum, discover that for the price of a hall sensor you can get a real dizzy then as above.

Have fun

I'm not even going to stoop to this level of conversation, :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Lets just say that aftermarket electronic dizzys, based on Chinese bosch knock offs, will be much praised by lovers of microsoft windows, (plug and pray),

I know, why not fit an 009 with a see thru cap, that'll really bling things up :rofl :rofl :rofl

Its your money.....

keep it original then you can use the manual to diagnose and sort it, swapping over to other systems just brings loads of unknowns/variable in to it, fine if you are a mechanic (or have the aptitude) and know what you are doing but not for the inexperienced, just my ho of course
