piggin peeved off
After looking forward to a week off camping in the north york moors we got about 15 mile out of Hull and started to over heat.We called the AA out and the guy thought the thermostat had stuck. So removed the said culprit and bleed as much air out as poss. All was fine while the AA man was behind us for 4 mile or so,and he looked her over agian to make sure everything was fine.So instead of trying to go too far we went to the nearest campsite at skirlington and spent 3 realy enjoyable days there instead. But once agian on the way home to replace thet thermo she started to run hot and stared loosing water. So we pulled over at beeford and waited for the AA nearly 2 hours to be relayed home. Its a 1.6 non turbo diesel if any one has any ideas. We jacked the front up and got as much air out as poss but to no avail, just hope the head gasked aint cooked.Only so one t25 while on the road a blue one towing a tin shed on wheels but he drove stright past.So much for commarad ship.

The culprit who drove past may not have been an 80-90 member! As Weldore said: any oil in the water?, or Mayo looking stuff in the oil? My prior T25 blew big style on the way back from Scotland. (Thanks again Weldore). Can you get a compression leakage test done at a friendly garage? Did any hoses feel really soft, or look flattened? Were you stuck in traffic at any time just before overheating?

Re: piggin peeved off
Cheers i have just had a look at the oil and thankfully not mayo so hopefully not too bad.when we first started to heat up i turned on the heater and that brought the temp down but all of a sudden no heat out of the vents and temp started to rise again,at the time i could not stop as i was coming up to a round about on a dual carrageway. All too quickly the red light came on and i pulled over to a lay by,it was on for no more than 5 or so seconds. The AA man had a gas tester with him and that did not turn colour to show combustion gasses in the water, but he still was not sure due to the amount of air in the system bubbling up in the expandtion tank. The water itself did not seem to show any sign of oil just lots of rust, funny really as it was supposed to of had the coolant replaced in november just before i bought the van as it said on the invoice that came with it.I am going to test the old thermo tonight with boiling water, but will replace anyway as it is still the original one.Thank for the comments, amazingly i dont fell too down about things. This was supposed to be my first week of work in 2 years but due to the van its back to work tom,the joys of self employment hey

Re: piggin peeved off
When i first got my van (diesel) it would overheat within 5-10 mins of leaving home (had it trailered to my house when i bought it) i blamed thermostat, blocked rad and just about everything else. Luckily i came across this thread before buying bits http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/bleed ... 29710.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and had a lot of help from people on here.
Bleed it properly, before you spend out. Seems an impossible job, but follow the instructions on the link. Get a second body too, or a brick for the accelerator pedal. You will be amazed how easy it is to bleed. Don't do any of this jacking it up rubbish, doesn't help at all.
You might have to end up spending money, but make sure first

Re: piggin peeved off
Is it worth changing the Dalec head on the expansion tank?

Re: piggin peeved off
I have just replaced the thermo and dalek cap with a new one from brickwerks and also used there method of bleeding.Guess what, good news after driving around the nearby industrial estate for half hour the temp gauge read no more than just over half way, well chuffed.
cheers, once again my faith in human kind as been restored.
