No such engine as a 1.9 DJ.

there's a 2.1 DJ but that is injected... not carburettor

or there's a 1.9 DF

I thought the PICT/Solex was only fitted to the 1.9DF and the DG alway came with a Pierburg 2E?

Unless there is anything very wrong with the Solex, I'd keep it, its much more simple than the pierburg to set up and has less to go wrong. Mine is still running fine even with a cracked autochoke cover.

Be sure you know exactly what engine you have before considering changing the manifold, they are slightly different between the DF and DG.

Compared to the solex the pierburg has an additional, vaccum operated, thottle butterfly and the autochoke is controlled by the vehicle coolant as well as an electrical element- i.e you need a lot more hoses! In the golf/scirrocco world people tend to replace the Pierburg 2E with a Weber 32/34 DMTL or similar, usually to get around cold running problems as the weber is a mostly mechanically governing carb with a manual choke. People also generally (falsely) believe the weber offers better fuel economy- it is true in so far that that replacing any faulty carb will improve fuel economy, however repairing it/re-tuning it is often much better.

it was the part on the auto choke body that cracked, and the missing bit is still missing in action :( cant believe how hard it is to get another solex carb :(
