Hepp!

Here's a few pics from our 3000 Kilometeres drive up the west coast and northern Norway. Being a norwegian myself I was actually shocked how good camping and van travelling we have in Norway. Ok, its an expensive country but amazing driving, views and camping. Lots of free wild camping opertunites too.

For anyone interested, one reccomended route (2-4 weeks depending..) is the ferry to Kristiansand from Denmark, do the boring 3 hour drive to Stavanger, then the joy starts. Up towards the west coast to Odda(Folgefonna glacier), camp at Hardangerfjord, up to Briksdalsbreen glacier, drive up to Geirangerfjord and take the car ferry to the the campsites in the end of the fjord, drive to trollstigen with amazing zig-zag turns and views, and maybe drive out to Cape West, then across the Romsdal valley and the long drive over Dovrefjell(mountain range), pass Trondheim and up to the good parts, namley Lofoten. These are a group of islands with spectacular views and outdoor activities(diving, surfing, hiking, camping, deep ocean fishing, fishing) and with 24/7 daylight in the summer.

Words don't do justice. Get over here and check it out!

Just one thing, weather is always like a lottery, some days you win and some days you dont..

Thought i`d add a few photos form our western Norway "get together" last weekend. The location is a pennninsula in the northwest called Stadt, very famous for it`s rough weather conditions. And the surfing.

Didn`t really live up to its reputation this weekend though....

Quite fancy Norway for October Holidays.

Just had a look for a ferry from the UK to Norway. Am I right in thinking you can't unless you go via Denmark? :shock:

Please...can someone help with my search foo :wink:

Harwich - Esbjerg is now the only ferry route to take tourist-type vehicles to Scandinavia from the UK. You could then do Hirtshals to Kristiansand to get to Norway. Usual story though - big cost = big time saving. (This year and in 2008 we whizzed thro the Chunnel and crossed from Denmark to Sweden then on up into Norway).

Great pics! Norway is so beautiful, plus I can fully endorse the ease of wildcamping in Norway, Sweden and Finland (Denmark is trickier, but it can be done). In Sweden they even leave you piles of free firewood to go with your freecamping. But Norway has the most dramatic landscapes by a long shot.

Frustrating to drive all that way, from Aberdeen Scotland, to get to Norway...is there a ferry from Lewick Shetland...off to have a look.

I'll be a bit sick if you find that car ferry. Six weeks ago we were in Bergen wondering the same thing and texting four friends to search the web for such a ferry service, but no joy. It would've made a great Viking-themed round trip for us, but I guess everyone nowadays flies then hires a car at one end or the other.

Apparently you can do Hull-Brevik now with DFDS. I've not used this service, just spotted it on another forum a while back and mentally filed it away...

£500 will buy me 3,000 miles of diesel (£6.50 per gallon @ 40mpg) and I can cross from Dover to Dunkerque for £39, but if time is of the essence....

And it's easy to forget how much people pay for conventional holidays - a friend of mine has just paid £1,500 for flights from Manchester to take his wife and three children on holiday in Turkey.

The more you look at it, the more it makes sense to use a campervan wherever you want to take a holiday!
