Great rough spot

Post by gilbo »

We just had a fantastic weekend - there was this splendid spot which you would not believe is only than 2 miles from Oldham! It was a three minute drive to any kind of civilization, but the spot really seemed to be in the middle of no-where - and if you can take the relentless flow of speed hungry motorcyclists (up until about 9pm each evening, Jeez) we are totally left alone! After 9pm there was no noise, no traffic and no bother. We really enjoyed ourselves, even got a barbeque going each night.

On another note, we actually departed this lovely spot at 9am Saturday morning in the vain hope we could find a nice quiet spot up on the Saddleworth Moors - we found a lovely 'one space only' pull in and when we were looked over the edge we saw a shocking example of fly tipping which spoilt it all a bit. Needless to say we headed back to the lake.

See you in Halifax

That looks just like places in Cyprus - they're total divots, obviously around Saddleworth too.. have you informed the local council of 'your find' - else it'll still be there when others look over, next week, and the week after, and ...

Hi mate I used to work for the local authority in Merseyside and it's my experience that the powers that be are more interested in gripping people 'at it' (and gripping the associated headlines) than cleaning up after them. These tyres and chairs and God knows what else were actually about 15 metres below us over a ledge and they would be difficult to get out, but also they were difficult to ignore and if it hadn't been for that uncomfortable mess we would have definitely stayed in that spot on the Saturday night instead of going back to the lovely Oldham spot - I'll never understand these louts I wouldn't even throw a chewing gum out of the window.

That aside - if you explore, you can find some great rough spots round Yorkshire. Admittedly at first we did spend 10 minutes by that lake shoving all the left rubbish into a binbag before we set up properly and believe me it was SPOTLESS after we left it!
