Stupid question alert (wading)

Bit of a mince question I think, in a landrover when wading. Water enters because of poor door seals and leaves.

On a syncro, especially if you have an eber/propex fitted does the water enter these holes and leave you with a wet camping interior?
Do you have to seal around the holes so water doesn't enter?

I didn't understand your first line Phil, but I would think with a factory fitted B/D2l as long as it wasn't on whilst wading you would be ok.
The B/D2l does have rubber gaskets sealing it everywhere that I can think of, but that depends on the condition of them gaskets I suppose.
Same goes with door seals, holes drilled into the floor and other gaskets, one thing that especially comes to mind is that all the screws have been put back in around the throttle cable gasket and anywhere they have been removed.
I did notice that when removing my carpet they had obviously built the body with left and right hand drive handbrake locations present in all bodies, the sealant they had used to fill what would have been the right hand drive hand brake was inadequate and water would have seeped in.
Whilst re-insulating my westy I did have this in mind so made sure that all obvious stuff was accounted for, A trickle isn't going to be a major issue but I would think the most important things were the door seals especially the slider.

But hey if I can drive around it I will. my "cock" is big enough as it is.

I was advised to tape up the inlet and exhaust. I had no issues after doing this.

My landy 110 didnt really behave itself when wading until I was up to my knees in water - it kind of floated a bit...

I can't believe you will ever make it water proof....

Having caused untold damage to my landy wading it to over the bonnet i'd be inclined to give it a miss in a syncro and just be happy embarrassing landies on the slippy stuff....

Not sure about a camper but on my Doka the only leak was the cab steps because I had swapped them for alloy ones and not sealed them.

Thank you for all the replies, general consensus seems to be don't wade to deep or make sure that everything is gasketed.
That's what I needed to know especially where I plan to take mine when I eventually find one.

I think as long as you keep moving, you dont get to much in. Its when you get stuck, that's the problem
I'm a bit nervy about wading with mine, dont want to fill up the interior with stinky water. I've drilled a few holes recently, need to get the mastic out.............

On an Eberspaecher, the combustion air is taken from outside, burnt and blown down the exhaust, back outside.
The air that the heater heats is taken from the inside of the van unlike the factory heater at the front that takes cold air and heats it.

Basically the Eberspaecher recycles and heats cabin air, imagine it as a petrol/Diesel fired hair drier.

that presumably means it would be a very good idea to seal the air inlet and exhaust before wading then as i suspect you could accidentally flood the combustion chamber. the same with a propex.

you need to go to a hardwere store and get some rubber walking stick ends. they are a perfect fit to the s/s inlet and exhaust pipes and can be fitted and removed in seconds.
if your worried about wading and water ingress dont do it! i have found on a doka the weak point is the locker door seals

Mine used to leak like a sieve.

It was coming in from the fridge vent, a 6" x 4" hole in the floor directly under the fridge. this has now been sorted and it seems fine, I have checked floors after wading and they are now dry.

Also I sealed around the propex inlet and exhaust.

I agree with the comments about keep moving, that has to help cut down any water ingress.

My Westy doesnt leak at all. I tape the ebber up and if ater or mud does get in i wait until its dry and hoover out the unit through the intake pipe and it sucks all the sh!t out.

I used high temp silicone around where the exhaust and inlet pipes go through the body also mounted the. Propex up high under the double seat in the cab to avoid flooding. Water will come in past your door seals when wading no matter how good they are you will never stop water getting in. Recently had water up to the gearsstick gaiter in a Particularly deep section just don't have carpet in your van if you want to go splashing around in water
