How rare is a WBX6 16" syncro?

One of my mums german friends just picked up a 16" syncro multivan with twin sliding doors and a 3.7 WBX6 oettinger engine. Its got projektzwo bullbars fitted from new too.
Its dark green and only had 2 previous owners. Originally built as a special order for someone in spain.

I've asked him for some piccies as it sounds rather special.

As all the oettinger vans were built up to order they are pretty much all unique in the level of modification they received. Add to that the rarity and similar nature of build of a "16 syncro and I'd say that it's probably a one-off van with less than 10 "16 oettinger 'cousins'!

A great find, I expect to see a magazine feature with a year!

He's not actually a VW fan, it just came up at a reasonable price so he bought it. He was looking for a mog originally.

For some reason the first owners name and address is redacted from the documents. Just Spain is left. VW had been sent a letter asking if they could give the name of the original owner (or who it was ordered for) but they couldn't which seems odd.

They wouldn't release that information probably because they wont have it and I doubt if Otteringer would either. Remember VW didnt make 6 cylinder 16" Syncros !! VW assembled the body, Steyr assembled the chassis components and Otteringer the engine and the dealer sold it .... ! VW can tell you which area it was sold into and the dealer, thats all.

He's now sold it for a very nice profit as he's got a lead on an LT Noriker for sale.
Just looked them up on google and it says they are a 4x4 LT with unimog axles and that only 22 were made.

They are NOT a LT4x4 with unimog axles. They use their own Axles and as such parts are extremely rare as in syncros were made in their millions.
From my research they made 18 of which i cant find out how many still exist.
If it has unimog axles it is not a Norka.

WBX6's aren't all that amazing.
Lovely romantic idea, gobble juice, not that fast, can't get bits for them unless you know where to look.
Unaffordable if you don't do your own repairs.
In my opinion of course.
Oettinger are most unhelpful if you ever need help, and they did not archive any material, if you need help then your on your own as there is a few people out there that do know about them they are most unwilling to share any info which I find really strange when dealing with such a niche engine.

VW didn't archive any information either, but again as far as VW knew they were selling just a 2.1l or something, the ones I've seen have the paper stickers to say it left the factory as a 2.1l so that says to me they were converted afterwards, which we kinda knew anyway.

Buy one, polish the manifold, put it on the wall as in my eyes it's a museum piece for serious collectors and not something for daily use.
