Thermostat 'lower'??

Post by Uncle Sheepy »

a friend of mines van (1.9 petrol) has just crapped out spraying steam/water from underneath.
I have not had a chance to look at in m'self but a garage has informed her that what has broken is the 'thermostat lower' and this part is no longer available at all :shock:
Now i know my thermostat housing is leaking a bit and could do with been changed at some point but I have no idea what this thermostat lower is and am slightly concerned now.
Could anyone shed any light on this please?
Cheers
Neil

What year is your van as there are two totally different thermostat housings (Early and Late). Both types are in two parts, upper and lower. Early is metal, late is plastic

Early is long since obsolete but the late is still available from VW Classic Parts in Germany via Brickwerks nr Huddersfield. You may have heard of them? If not they supply nothing but top quality T3/T25 parts as it's owner works on our vans day in day out.

Lower housing http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... thermostat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Upper Housing http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... thermostat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

:ok

Kev, I bet if the garage asked a UK VW dealer they would say they were obsolete. But they don't usually deal direct with Classic
