Evening all (or morning of you don't read this till tomorrow )
Pulled the units outta Gunther ('89 Autosleeper Hitop) to do the sill repair and the fridge is looking pretty shabby.
Thinking about replacing it, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations/suggestions.
can obviously look on the Dometic web site at their equivalent models (3 -way) but thought I would see if there were any "new improved" fridge technologies around these days?
You could opt for the 12v compressor type fridge from Waeco or similar makes. Use very little power, but are pretty expensive and I suspect their lifespan won't be as good as the absorption type due to having moving parts to wear out etc.
Yep a 12v compressor type fridge is the way to go from my experience. I recently fitted one to my van and its been -18 all day in the freezer compartment with it only on half power.
so excuse my ignorance but does the compressor fridge only work on 12v then, not 3 way? Pressumably if you have a decent leisure battery setup this isn't an issue?
Did you go Waeco Jed and are there any pics of your blog?
MM the waeco's just run on lecky they are compressor driven as opposed to absorbtion, they use very little power and are not overly fussed by external mtemp nor do they have to be as good as level. I when I build my next van will be fitting one.

I havent got ther links anymore but did one for a boat some years back only bought the compressor bit, and built the insulated cabinet into the vessel, dead easy and doesnt have to be a rectangular box eother.

100ltr 35 watt when running

I've been looking at those CRP-40, they have a 40w power consumption!!!
You clearly have some leisure batteries in your trailer. 3-way can keep stuff well cold for 15 days on one bottle of gas.
A 12v absorption fridge will consume 100W continuously. A compressor fridge switches on/off at intervals depending on what the 'stat is set at and the ambient temperature, so it may only run for 20 minutes in any given hour. All I know is there was one in a camper I hired in NZ and it was quiet, ran for only a few minutes before switching off again and never seemed to even slightly discharge the battery. I have no idea what power consumption that one was but the camper didn't have a leisure battery IIRC.
I have a 3 way absorption fridge in my camper too so I know how long the gas will last, the OP was asking for possible alternatives
