3 wheeled T25 anyone?

Post by bitler1@gmail.com »

Close one this... The front left wheel came off my Westy this afternoon on an alpine road just after a series of hairpins with vertical drops. Turns out the wheel nuts weren't the right tq setting... Done 2500 mm since the wheels were last off! Question is: what's the correct tq wrench setting? I thought 82lb ft? Is that too low? It's going to cost me new brake discs and an extra week in France to find out! Plus some new body work repairs and a new wheel too! How much of a tw*t do I feel!?!?

All safe and sound in a hotel thanks ( no thanks to the oiks that stole both bikes off the back of the other t4 in convoy with us while the wives/kids were taking refuge in a nearby town and then pedalled right past us 2 miles up the hill!!! Unfortunately we only had time to grab them back and not fill them in-should have seen the shock on their faces when they realised that the other British van they were pedalling past was related to the bikes they'd nicked!!!) kick a man while he's down!

I got 40yds of noise and telling my missus "there's something wrong with the van" but whilst trying to find a suitable place to pull over the decision was made for me!

Im Glad you are all safe mate.

the same one came off on mine ..we were approaching a roundabout in kings lynn and while we were arguing who's side the noise was coming from(sounded like a wheel bearing) the bugger fell off

after i realised that some paint was on the part of the alloy that touches the disc, after we had had them refurbished, and had melted leaving the wheel loose.we had done around 400 miles since the wheels were put back on.all it did was give me a flat spot on the disc,no arch or wheel damage.put it back on and carried on ...with my ear to the ground all the way

That's really interesting Dave! We had our wheels repainted 5 months ago.... Must be exactly the same thing. I've got a big flat spot on the disc and the french mechanics say it's tres dangereux! Not going to chance it on a 800km return journey with wife and baby!

From the Wiki
"Wheel nuts/bolts on T25's (Lug nuts in the US) - 180 N-m (133 lb-ft)"
