de-ionized water in water-boxer coolant

Post by Palomino »

Hi,

[T25 2.1i water-boxer]

I want to change my coolant.
The previous owner of the van said it is essential to use a 50:50 mix of G12+ antifreeze diluted with de-ionized or distilled water. However, I see no mention of this 'fancy' water in the VAG owners instruction handbook or in any of the coolant-related posts on this forum or Brick-yard. I can see the reasoning behind it, what with the internal corrosion problem, but is it true? If so, where can I obtain 8 litres of de-ionized water? Even the guys at my local VAG commercial branch were scratching their heads on this one.

Any thoughts or past experience on this would be much appreciated. I'm new to these funny old engines and I want to make sure I maintain it properly.

Regards

Phil

Try your local ASDA/Tesco. Seriously.
