issues with no temp gauge and twisted cables in engine

Post by twindub1 »

Hi all, can anyone advise me on the following. I have included photos to help explain. i have a blue and yellow cable twisted together in the engine, the same cable that run to the sensor below the thermostat housing on a vw caravelle 1988 1.9l.Image

Also i have found that the oil pressure cables have been twisted together as shown in photo below. Any reasons why this is, and should it go somewhere?Image

Finally in the fuse board can anyone tell me what relays should be there that arent, and what each relay does. Image

ps. the temp gauge doesnt work, and the red flashing light is always on. Also when one prong of the blower is slid accross its blows the 20amp fuse in fuseboard..
I appreciate any help i get on the above issues.

Regards
Kimon

relays look OK nothing missing

The yellow/red wire should go the the temp sensor for the temp gauge it has a brown wire to it aswell

yes the brown wires should go the the oil pressure sensors, one between the pushrod tubes in between cylinder 3 & 4 and one between the oil pump and water pump
these brown wires terminate in the engine bay junction box where they connect to a 7 pin connector
pin 7 changes to a yellow wire and supplies the 0.9 bar sensor by the oil pump
pin 1 changes to a blue/black wire and supplies the 0.3 bar sensor between the pushrod tubes

I don't know what the blue wire is... yet

does the blower blow air or nothing when you turn it on with a new fuse?

The blower does nothing, apart from blow a fuse...
Would the twisted blue/yellow cable in engine cause the temp gauge not to work?
Could anyone show me pictures of how it should look, that way i have at least a fighting chance.
Cheers Fellow members. :rollin

Are you sure it's just yellow or is there a red stripe on it as well?
The Haynes shows tells you the colours and locations of wiring.

if the blower is not doing any thing, then the blower is seized and will need to be replaced. To do that the dash has to come off.
