Popped no3 plug

Post by Realize »

Hi All

Was on my way to Devon last Friday and suddenly lost all power and had a terrible noise coming from engine, this was M4 hard shoulder where I stopped.

AA just recovered my Aircooled T25 home so ended up going to Devon in a different car.

I have just had a look in the engine bay and found plug 3 had popped out, they could have sorted this if they had bothered to look.

What I need to know is when I refitted the pug it felt a little loose on the thread, it has tightened down ok but I am not confident it will stay put although it is running ok at the moment.

Will this need a helicoil at some point? how easy is this to do yourself or is it a definite garage job? If so can anyone recommend a reliable garage near Beds or Bucks?

If the plug has tightened you might be lucky and it just worked loose, but you would have to be very lucky. If not and you think the threads are no good then yes it will need a helicoil as it may blow out again.

Hi All

Can anyone recommend a garage that can fit a helicoil in No.3 on my Aicooled Cu T25 in the Bucks or Beds area?

Cheers J
