I need a new sliding door but how do i.......

Post by Paul_Van_Denton »

tell if its an early one i need? My van is a 1983 panel van. Will a later door fit with a later hinge or is it totally different? Are there any other differences?

These are the questions i've searched the internet for but couldn't find the answers.

Thanks alot.

Yours should be an early door. I think it was after 84 they changed.
Its a hell of a lot of work to change to a later door and will cost you loads to do it in the long run. :ok

so how exactly is the new door different? could i just cut the door hinge bar in half and weld the other half of a newer hinge to it? i guess im dreaming there but you never know.

well its a van door so certainly desireable and rarer, new bottom so the lower is easy enough to sort then some work on the dents and shouldnt then need too much filler. if you find a good door then do keep hold of this one as it still has value

Not that easy im afraid. Alot easier to spend the cash on another door. There are good ones out there just not cheap. You could always try getting another door with a good bottom end and transplant it if needed. :ok
