Petrol Aircooled 'Juddering'

Hi there.

I dreamed of a T25 for years until I met a girl who had her own Much cheaper!

Anyway, neither of us are mechanical and our, er I mean her, beautiful yellow van is playing up so I thought I'd try and help her out. It's been to the mechanic (another T25 owner and as far as I can tell an absolute diamond) but the fault has reoccurred.

Intermittently it judders/cuts/misfires about three times in quick succession when driving and then when it's in this mood it'll also stall when stopped unless revs are put on. The oil light will also blinks when this is happening. It seems to be more in traffic than on open road but seems fairly random.

The mechanic says he's looked at the carb and oil but it's still happening.

Any suggestions gratefully received. It's a Y-reg Aircooled petrol (1.9 I presume). I think it's coincidence, but it's also been smelling a bit hot lately. A kind of metal/clutch smell. I'd like to get it fixed, because I'm on the insurance now and I'm sure she thinks it's my driving!

Oh, and anyone know anything about LED internal strip lights? I'd like to source some for her.

all points to an air leak somewhere or fuel starvation of some kind....

* Check fuel tank breathers are not blocked
* check fuel filters - by the tank and in the carbs
* check all the balance pipes and in particular the rubber elbows as these perish and split
* Whilst your checking things check ALL of the fuel lines for degradation - many of these vans have the original fuel lines in place still and are a fire bomb in the waiting

Many thanks for that. I'll let my other half 'suggest' those issues to the mechanic when it goes back. Or if I've time, I might even get her Haynes book out and have a look meself...

Gaskets and hose even yhe servo hose
assuming it is an airleak
for electrical. .engine earth, coil earth king lead arc in the coil housing.
Overheating is weak mixture and or poor timing.
This will thin out the oil enough to lower the pressure which will in turn make the oil light come on
eventually the engine will seize.
use 15/40 oil
