T25 1.9 DG Help needed...please...

Hi there lads n lasses.........NEED SOME HELP......Please......
got a few problems with my van....
1.it takes quite a few turns on the key to get started when hot( starts instantly when cold )...And when it finally starts the cab smells of petrol
2.the starter motor has just started too struggle intermitently.sounds like its maybe dry, grinding and turning over very slow one minute then turns over great the next...It had a new starter motor at the start of the year....

Have you checked for petrol leaks?
Breather tubes
Tank
Fuel lines
the filter
Air leaking into the pump inlet line will give a hot start problem.

2..
When the stsrter was changed was the bush in the bell housing changed?
It reads like it wasn't

Thanks for your reply..............
1.Yes the bush was changed when the starter was....It was done at the begining of the year and has been fine till now...
2.where do i check if theres air leaking into the pump inlet line?
3.I do seem to use alot of petrol so maybe i have got a leak some where????

The line at the pump... Is the clip tight if its a jubilee clip thats no good you need a proper fuel clip.
With the pump off, Can you suck air through the pump, from the pump inlet?
If you can the pump has failed (mechanical)

If the bush is confirmed then you have a problem with earth or the connections to the starter.
Including the ignition switch...
Are you sure the bush was changed?

Hi many thanks again for your reply....yes the bush Was changed so I will check the earths and conectors...I will also check the pump tomorrow aswell...
Will let you know how I get on
