Dometic Waeco RF60 Fridge

Hi, been looking at a replacement fridge for the camper and saw this 3-way absorption one on the World Of Camping website:

BUT

What has confused me was it states "not for installation in motor vehicles or boats". But the Dometic website clearly says its a caravan and motorhome fridge. So i contacted World Of Camping, and they basically told me its not designed to be fitted to motor vehicles, and that you can't use the gas on motor vehicles or boats.

By "motor vehicles" are they including T25 campervans?

The old 3-way electrolux (now owned by Dometic) fridge i've taken out as 2 outside vents (one high, one low) and a flue pipe.

Are they talking cobblers, or shall I just ring Dometic and clear it up?

They say not to use it on gas in motor vehicles and boats - probably because of combustion exhaust products building up. I'd phone and check the exhaust can be vented outside as per the 'norm' in campers. Frankly it's a bit 'old hat' anyway as it uses a push button piezo ignition for the gas rather than an electronic one.

They list a 'flue' kit for that model at the top of the advert. I am wondering if they mean 'not to use it on gas' because it is sold without a flue kit and soomeone may uknowingly buy and fit one in their caravan minus a flue.

Going by the advert - it is OK to run it on gas in a tent then!!!! Idiots (Where would you use a gas powered fridge whilst camping?) One site states:
THIS FRIDGE IS A CAMPING FRIDGE, WHICH IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE FITTED IN A CARAVAN/MOTORHOME, AS IT DOES NOT COME WITH A FIXING KIT. (yet sell a flue kit)
I think that more information is needed in the advert. I would follow the manufacturer's spiel.

Most sites say that it can be used in tents, awnings, log cabins and the like with no mention of the possibility of CO poisoning from use on gas therein!!

But would it be safe to run on 12v/240v? No poisonous gaseous fumes? (like carbon monoxide!)

You can use it on 12V/240V without a flue. The only requirement is that air can circulate at the back and you either fit a vent or mount the fridge so that cool air is drawn under it and can escape above it. If you are not going to use gas then it might be worth you looking at the Waeco CF series portable Compressor fridges . I have had my CF for 10 years - I would never go back to the inferior absorption type.

i second the compressor fridge type- mine is 26 years old, and works brilliantly. itll run indefinitely from the 130watt solar panel with plenty power left and freeze ice if you like that. if you dont want or cant go the gas route, think compressor fridges are definitely the way to go.
