Wiring Diagram Please

Post by Cyprus dave »

Has anyone got a wiring diagram showing the two 'Earth Crowns' behind the fuse board, and in particular where the earth wires from the crowns connect up to.

I have a problem with my near side headlight being very dim. Through a process of elimination I have found the earth connection on the crown for the lights but there are two wires on this spade, one appears to be connected the other end OK. The second very short wire (approx 12cm's long) on this spade is not connected the other end. It has been stripped back, suggesting it was connected to a spade or something, but I cannot find anything that is missing a wire.

Being such a short wire the connection has got to be very close to the crown. Just above the crowns there is what I would call a Junction with two relays. I can't see where a wire would go but it's in the right area. The other possibility is in the back of the fuse board, but again I can't see where.

In attempting to cure the problem I have already tried to make sure of good earth connections and replaced some female spades, but the lights remain dim on the nearside. (offside are working OK)

Any help/suggestions/diagrams much appreciated.

Cyprus Dave

PS. Hope it's OK to send this second Post on problem

Hello,

there are wiring diagrams on these pages:

http://www.club80-90.co.uk/pages/downloads.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can't seem to download the relevant page at the moment, but I'll have a look later if I get a chance in my van and on the Haynes. Sometimes it's a good idea to connect known good earths, and known good 12V supplies to the lights directly and work backwards just to try and isolate the bit of wiring where the problem is. For example, although a bad earth is likely, a positive wire getting very hot due to poor rating or bad connections will also cause the lights to dim.

The relay above the crown is for the radiator fan - AFAIK there is usually just one there, but I might be wrong about that.

Hope you find the problem

Hello,

just had a look on the general electrics document - not sure if it's the right diagram for your van, but look for example at page 132 - the radiator fan relay and radiator fan are both earthed at point 10 - circled at the bottom of the page - this is the shared earth crown you're looking at - looking forward the 10 with a circle around it will tell you what's connected to the earth crown. Might be worth checking the functionality of your radiator fan if you think it may be to do with the relay above there.

It's probably not the exact diagram you want, but it's near enough.

Ewen

I've fixed it.

Having checked all of the connections on that earth crown against the electrical drawings and established that everything was working except the lights I followed your other suggestion of tracking down a loose/broken wire. Starting at the light fitting I traced the wires through bulk head to under the dashboard. I seperated the wires as best I could and there it was a broken wire, the other end to the short 12 cm wire coming off the crown. Did not have right size spade etc to replace the whole wire, so used one of those bullet connectors to join the two ends. Will finish the job when I get back to Cyprus from England. (got to see my daughter who is not very well)

Many thanks for you help and suggestions.
