Hi.
I've got a DH engine 1.9 petrol engined wedge which is doing my thre'pennys in! The idle is playing up a bit and can go anywhere from 1100rpm to dip as low as 800rpm. Mainly the idles at about 1000rpm although I've attempted to adjust it to bring it back to 900rpm.
Recently theres been a couple of occasions that the engine has cut out as I slow when approaching a junction. It doesn't happen in I'm sitting still, only when slowing. Is this a timing issue or a servo problem. I had an advisory on my MOT that the front brake pipes had corrosion. Could this be an issue?
Many thanks
Mark

Your idle problem won't be anything to do with rusty brake pipes. An erratic idle is normally caused by a mixture problem. Either an air leak letting it suck in too much air or a blocked fuel filter not letting it get enough fuel. Both cause a weak mixture and stalling at low engine speeds.

This happened to us - carb jets cleaned and vacuum pipe cleared (it was partly blocked with something 'gunky') and the problem was solved. Also had the timing adjusting slightly so that it ran a bit higher when in park or when stationary in drive.

No carb, its an injection model. Recently put some Wynns cleaner thru the system to get my HC level down. could this have shifted gunk somewhere?

I missed it was a DH engine.
High HC is caused by unburnt fuel so it sounds like you're running rich, so maybe at low speeds the engine is flooding. All I know about DH ignition systems is here.

Re: Engine idle erratic and engine cuts out when slowing
Injection or not erratic idle can be an air leak which causes high HC.
So erradicate any air leaks first
Or one of the sensors has failed usually in the AFM or ISU.
