Screw fallen out of carb! 2litre a/c t25

Post by morzov »

I wonder if anyone can help please to identify a screw that I found at the bottom of the left hand side of the engine bay.

My van is a 2 litre air cooled 1982 vintage so its got the Solex 34 carb.

Picture quality is not so good but its a threaded screw about 12mm long, pointed at one end and about 5mm dia.

I've checked the basic idle mixture screw which is on the side of the carb low down and seemed the most obvious place but nothing missing. Be grateful for any ideas suggestions

It's a jet screw ... I found exactly the same thing hiding in Rozzo's tinware 18 months ago ... that was a CU engine as well.

No and I believe it was the mixture jet.

Have a good look the side of the barrel of the carb just above the basic idle mixture. Ages ago I noticed a damp stain on the side of one of my carbs, it was petrol and it was coming from a thread hole in the barrel. I found a similar screw on the top of the inlet manifold and it fitted the hole? I don't think the diagram in the Haynes shows it. If it's the same as mine I'd check all the solenoids etc are tight as well.

Ok I'll have a look at that.

Turns out it was the venturi screw which is on the inner side of the carb. Have replaced but not sure how far it screws in although the one on the right hand carb was screwed in tight.

It locates and holds the venturi into the carb body, put some threadlock on it and just nip it into place, over-tightening can damage the carb.
