I've also spoken to Dave at Futbus. He's coming over on the 17th October to fit my new brakes. We'll definitely be spending a few days in the mountains checking out possible routes, etc. He's coming over on the ferry and his family is joining him later by plane. If you can't wait until next year maybe you could join him???

Hi All

I'm sorry to say that I've only received three solid confirmations for the off-roading. I guess it's time to ask if the trip is now viable in its present form or if it needs to be scaled down or even cancelled???

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Well we have brought our ticket and I think will come over whatever. Even if we do the off road routes that we can do without guides and spend the rest of the time walking - it is great walking country I'm told. It will be a shame though as it would be our first 80 90 event and we have been looking forward to that part as much as anything.

Oh dear, bummer. That's a shame Rob.
Thoughts going through my head -
Is the per vehicle offroad cost exorbitant with only 3 vehicles?
Could the trip be transmuted into one with a different focus which would be acceptable to the remaining three? What is the financial penalty to cancel/change my ferry booking?

I was looking forward to this but the cost was begining to chew at me. If you have to pull out, it would be Ok with me as I'm not off roading...dont feel you have to continue with the project, especially if it's going to cost you money.

Hi All

On holiday in Portugal at the moment so sorry for not getting back to you earlier.

I guess it's up to you guys to decide what you want to do. I'm quite happy to organise a couple of days off-roading for those who still want to make the trip. There's also a couple of trails you can do without a license.

Unless i have missed something, looking back up the thread at the last count we had:

Essex Nige
Syncropatrick
PetenAli
V-Lux
Axeman
Peninsulakid
HarryMann
Mudlark

all down as taking the off-road option?

I know you only have three that have sent their documents but have any now definitely dropped out?

(I should be picking my van up from Brickwerks this coming week and will commit as soon as i know for certain I have a van)

Hi Mudlark

I, like yourself, hope some more people will get back to me over the next couple of days. Unfortunately I've had two or three cancel by private mail and I've just not heard from others for quite a while.

If anyone is still keen to join the trip please let me know. I need copies of your driving license, passport, etc A.S.A.P.

Cheers

Rob,

To help with judgements and decision making... we will almost certainly still visit at that time, regardless and take whatever is on offer; especially after seeing the last episode of Rick Stein's Spanish series... trying to saving €3,000 in time to bring back a whole Iberico ham :D
as well as a few goat cheeses

Think it will be a difficult call as to a minimum group size (& hence maximum affordable costs)...

Rgds

Right....

Ive had a bit of a situation change and it looks like it might be possible to make it to this....possibly....

Has anyone done a realistic budget for the trip, ie a breakdown of what the entire thing is likely to cost?
Just trying to get my head around whether i might be able to afford it if the time becomes available.

This is what I reckon based on rounding everything up and worse exchange rate (so over estimating):

Camping (7 nights) £140
Ferry (Plymouth - Santander on 231011, Santander - Portsmouth on 311011) £550
Fuel £200

That comes to £890 and need to add cost of guiding which will depend on numbers of participants and days. Also food and whatever you want to spend.

Hope this helps,

Pete
