Just wondering if anyone on here has one, and if so was it worth the money and what made you fit it? :ok

all depends on the engine your gonna fit, I have a scooby lump that turns over fine with a bog standard normal one!

Without wanting to turn this into a tech thread, I thought that too, but my stock one can barely turn over my spec'd 2100 type one engine. Which I am very surprised at, but have yet to discover the reason behind it.

most likely gonna get moved! is the engine a good rebuild high compression? check the resistance on all connections and wires to the starter and the earth, should spin in fine!

It's a high spec custom built type one air cooled motor, high compression ratio. Have a few more checks to make yet.

Hope it doesn't get moved, this isn't meant to be a tech thread, I'm just trying to find out who runs high torque starters.

Our high compression 2.1 DJ wbxer spins over fine with a standard starter .... is your starter bush on the way out or as James says check the wires and the earth.

As Ian says.....the standard motor should be up to the job and there is probably another reason for this:
Oilite bush worn oval (support bearing for the starter end mounted in the box)
Poor earth connections
Poor feed connection
Poor battery connections
Degraded wiring
Poor battery performance insufficient CCA (cold cranking amps) probably needs a diesel battery (650CCA or higher)
The copper braided feed between the solenoid and starter body corroded
Issues with the ignition switch (very common)
Poor solenoid switch feed connection (standard spade connector) the connector and internal wire is often corroded (the last couple of centimetres)

I will check the bush (REALLY don't want to pull the engine, hoping I can tap it and pull it from the back), but I am just about to nip out and whip the starter off and have a proper look.

i run one on my van, best thing i ever fitted as the standard starter was not up to the job of turning over the engine with its 11.1 compression , its also self supporting so does not need the gearbox bush bought it from abroad and saved a packet on english prices to
