North Scotland recommendations please.

Post by BenClem »

Hi

I am planning on heading up to the North of Scotland Thurso, Wick, Durness and back down the west coast to Fort William.

If you can recommend any campsites, wild camp sites or anything of interest that would be greatly appreciated.

Happy holidays
Ben

If your going camping on the west coast the first thing you will need is a good midge repellent ,try Smidge or Avon skin so soft .Try campsite on Ullapool sea front or the one in Fort Augustus. The site in Glennevis is is very good (at the foot of Ben nevis) ,my favourite has to be the Red Squirrel in Gencoe.

Hi Sango sands campsite up in durness is a really nice site. It's on top of the cliff and can get windy but worth it.If you are up there you must go to Smoo Cave it's not far from sango sands there is also a council campsite in thurso. Scourie is a b it further along the coast and has a site by the beach qalthough it has been a few years since i have stayed there. On your way back down the A9 towards Inverness you should stop at Dunrobbin Castle it is well worth a visit and you will be able to see them flying the birds of pray. The sites already mentioned for Fort William are good and if you are going to Loch Lomand then i can recomend site in Luss great site right on the banks of the loch.

We had a week in the west of Scotland in June, stayed at the Camping & Caravan club site at Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond & then on to the Isle of Mull. Fantastic places & scenery really enjoyed our trip. Will definately go "up norf" again. Hope you have a fab time.
