Help. Van wont idle/stalls.

Hello,
First post and a bit of an emergency!
1.9 petrol type 25 circa 1986.
Been missing a little bit and now wont idle at all, just cuts out.
The one thing that I can see at first glance is a black wire running from the top of the carb, connects to a white plastic push connector and then goes into the main grey shrouded wire.
Ok, this wire id joined after the white plastic push connector with a spade connector. Should this spade push onto the spade on the distributor or do you think its just been used to literally join the wires together?

Problem solved.
Getting no juice to the idle 'kill' switch on side of carb, local mechanic is a genius
