vw part number - front wheel bearing

Post by mattrsa »

Current on a 5 week road trip round Europe and have broken down in Lyon. My break down recovery company are trying to sort it but was wondering if anyone knew what the vw part number is for a front wheel bearing.
They are trying to source the part and I have given them the chassis number but they are having no luck.

Can anyone help.

I think yours is a late then.But your avatar pic looks like an aircold.And i would of thought it would of been an early :? The changeover year was 1984.
Early = up to chassis number 24E 023 827
Late = from chassis number 24E 023 828..Taken from the brickyard.

Matt / Rob, your van is an early setup, it is a 2.0 Aircooled, 1981 model so go for the early set, inners are the same on both its the outer that changed.

From sitting in traffic jams there going Northbound there's a boat that goes up and down the river and what looks like riverside cafes/resturaunts on the far (eastern) side.

Got the van back and it seems to be fine although I think the French mechanic tried to suggest that the other bearings would need replacing too because of the alloy wheels being fitted.

Surely this is not right. The wheel and tyre are the same size as the standard wheels give or take a mm or two?

Unless he is suggesting non original alloys with incorrect offset will put added strain on the bearings (he is correct if this is the case)
This doesn't apply to correct fittment Carats and South African factory alloy options.
