Gearbox oil

Post by Tony Tone »

As i understand it there is no way of accurately checking the oil level in the gearbox. Mine has a bit of an oily underside so must be weeping slightly/slowly. I am away on 100 mile round trip in the van this weekend and just want to top the level up before i get round to a full oil change as dont want to do just before i go away ( if avoidable)

So, if there was say 4L of oil in the box ( unlikely) and i chuck another litre in there, technically overfilling, will the gearbox explode into 1000 pieces ?.

Petrol 5 speed manual

The fill hole is the level - cant be overfilled.
Why not change the oil now while you're under there?? The gearbox will love you for it!
Try 75W90 GL4/GL5 as recommended by Aidan. Made an improvement to the gear changes on my 5 speed box.
Particularly gear first change of the day.
Just saw yours Ian. :ok
