Do I need a new Speedo Cable

When I converted my 2wd camper into Syncro I ran around without the front drive shafts fitted. Prop and front diff in place.
The s/h cable and syncro speedo worked just fine.
I then connected the front drive shafts. Hey Presto speedo doesn't work.
well it bounces around a bit and gets up to 30mph when Iam doing 70mph.
Is it speedo cable on its last strands or something else.

weird
connecting the drive shafts should make no difference unless the front diff is totally toast and the vc is too
I have new cable on shelf if Baxter hasn't got any

Is the trip counter also underreading by loads (if so the clock is probubly fine)? If you take the cable off the diff can you turn it by hand easily (if so points more to drive pinion)? Is it clipped into the clock properly/fully (with an undamaged end as sometimes just the tip snaps off makeing drive noisy/wobbley/intermitent).

Does sound odd, if it was the cable causing that much error I'd have thought it'd fail pritty soon after, and maybe make a noise just before, once had a car with a cable that only read with a cold gearbox, that was odd, but packed up completely soon after - cables can do funny things!

Undid the Speedo cable at the diff end.
The cable was almost through only one strand was attached to drive.

New cable required.

Hi, the speedometer on my Syncro has stopped working. I've taken the speedo apart and the cable rotates. However when I connect it to the speedo itself, it won't turn. Can it be that the cable is worn? Any advice on ow to change it is much appreciated

does the speedo drive on the gearbox work ? remove the cable from the box end, jack up one side of vehicle so front and rear wheels off the ground (if prop fitted otherwise just jack up front ) and support vehicle then rotate wheels and observe the speedo drive in the front diff it should also rotate

Hi Aidan, Im a little lost, please bear with me. Im not sure what you mean by speedo drive on the gearbox. As far as I can see, the speedo cable runs from the clocks to the front diff (lockable in my csse, if that makes any difference).

lube/ plus gas
27mm spanner required, usually the nut will turn but not freely as it will bind/be rusted to the outer sleeve so may require something to gently but securely hold the outer sleeve whilst cracking the nut, you'll be able to feel when it stops binding

"plus-gas" is a brand of penetrating fluid, wd40 is not a penetrating fluid it's a water dispersant, but is better than nowt

plus gas, heat, patience - the key to getting things apart without knackering them - if that fails then yes, big fo hammer
