Have just installed a leisure battery and split charge circuit to someone elses van with a basic just kampers relay ie the one that uses the signal wire from the alternator . Everything seems to work fine, ie when the vehicle is running both batteries showing 13.6 volts, when the engine off, drivers bat at 12.46v and leisure bat at 12.79v.
All sounds fine but when I do a continuity test with my multi meter (with the engine off) between the positive terminal of the drivers bat and positive terminal of the leisure bat, I get a reading showing that there is partial continuity (ie the two are connected somehow). When I say a partial continuity, I mean the multi meter I am using gives an audible signal but the value shows a figure of "450" approx. If I touch the mutli meter leads together (ie direct continuity) I get a reading of 0 and an audible reading.
I have checked this issue with my own van and sure enough I get a partial continuity reading also - but perhaps this is not surprising as both systems are installed by me!
To try and trace the problem I removed the main fuse to the house electrics in case there was a leak off that circuit finding its way back to the drivers battery but this didn't seem to make any difference.
I also took the two battery leads off the relay and tested continuity between the two main relay terminals. Here no continuity as you'd expect.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here? If you do a continuity test between the two batteries does your multi meter register that they are linked?
Any light shed on this welcomed cause it's really bugging me!

You cant do a continuity check if there is still power going through the cable. The multimeter uses it's own internal battery to send approx 3V voltage down the wire to take the measurement.
