flashing oil light??
Hi all i have recently fitted a 2.0 golf gti engine 2e code, i decided to fit a genuine rev counter by splicing a coil feed in to the green wire, but since doing so the oil warning light flashes continuously, i understand that the oil pressure/b.o.d circuit uses this wire but dont understand why the light flashes as it didnt flash before i spliced the rev counter feed in, i have a vdo oil pressure gauge so not worried about that side of things, i just want to stop it flashing, short of breaking the connection to the bulb or drilling a hole through it i am lost for ideas, any help on this would be great, many thanks.

Re: flashing oil light??
Adding a tacho should not cause the LED to flash and I am wondering if the problem is caused by a wiring error regards the oil pressure switches. There are two on a standard T25 engine a 0.3 Bar and a 0.9 Bar and you may now be using one with the replacement engine and have an error somewhere.
However, since you have an oil pressure gauge you do not need the BOD circuit. The BOD circuit controls the OIl pressure LED, I would convert the oil pressure led to work directly off the oil pressure switch as did all pre BOD Transporters. It is relatively straightforward to do but you need to check that the oil pressure switch on the new engine is normally closed with engine off and the switch opens when the engine is fired up as this could be the cause of your problem.
Shown below is the connector that pushes onto the oil pressure pcb located on the rear of the speedo. Disconnect it from the BOD by gently pulling the membrane panel away and freeing the edge of the membrane panel from the two plastic lugs that hold it securely. Insert a 0.5 Watt resistor in the location shown below (any value between 470 and 1500 ohms will do) Your oil pressure LED is now connected directly to the 0.3 bar oil pressure switch as on pre 86 vans and should illuminate with the ignition on and go our when the engine is started. The led will be 'on' or 'off' and not flash (as the BOD controls the flashing).
Alternatively buy a 5mm 12V Red led which requires no resistor (these can be bought as a flahing type if you prefer), fit that in place of the current LED and use a wire link instead. I have Red 12V flashing types in stock but you can get them from Maplin, CPC, Radio Spares, etc.
