Newquay: Somewhere close that isn't a holiday park!!

Post by bikermike87 »

Hey everyone,

I'm due to do a 2 week road trip around the UK with roughly 1 week being spent in or around Newquay.

I'm looking for a site that hasn't got play areas, kids running around and long queues for showers.

All the holiday parks seem to have great reviews, but it's just not what I'm after.

I want somewhere quiet, clean and maybe near the beach. I usually wild camp in the syncro, but my mate is bringing his teardrop and doesn't want to wing it

So I need to be a fully booked, prepared camper, which aint me.

Also here is our proposed plan, feel free to add places worth staying or seeing on the way!
Sat 30/07 (north Yorkshire)
Sun 31/07 (north Yorkshire)

Mon 01/08 Buxton (Peak District)
Tue 02/08 Buxton (Peak District)

Wed 03/08 Stratford upon aven?! Cottswolds
Thur 04/08 Broadway Cottswolds (staying with family)
Friday 05/08 Evesham Cottswolds (Staying with family)

Sat 06/08 minhead (Cornwall)
Sun 07/08 Bude (Cornwall)
Mon 08/08 Nequay
Tuesday newquay
Wednesday newquay
Thursday newquay

Friday : Newquay ?!
Sat: drive back half way point stay over
Sunday arrive home

We stayed here year before last:

http://www.trencreekholidaypark.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was really quiet but it was the beginning of September and not the school holidays. As it is a little further out of Newquay I think that is the reason.

The facilities were really clean and it was cheap...£8 something per night!

There is a bus stop just outside if you want to go into Newquay and they had buses running right up until 0020.

It may still be a bit too 'holiday parky' for you but may suit.

Porth beach campsite.
Great site with a gorgeous 30 min walk to Newquay. Has a lovely beach.

I always used to use Trenance. Its only a 10 min walk into the centre of Newquay. Its wasn't fantastic but it looks like it has been modernised a little over the years.

Always good old Blue Hills near St Agnes. Owners very 80-90 friendly! Approx 2 miles by road from St Agnes where you can surf (pay to park in the pub carpark then get your money back on a pint of Doombar afterwards!) and not far from Perranport and Newquay. Very, very quiet site but can be windy!

Brilliant, thanks everyone, just trying to avoid costa del canvas!

My friend has dropped out for the first week and wants to go Norfolk now, so looks like I will be able to get some wild camping sorted for the first week :ok

I'm liking the idea of the pub, good starting point me thinks!
